A Calm, Supportive Guide for the College Planning Journey
Joyful Journey exists to support students and families with thoughtful, personalized college guidance—so the process feels clear, steady, and grounded from start to finish.
Joyful Journey was founded with the belief that college planning should feel supportive, thoughtful, and grounded—not overwhelming or competitive. At its heart, Joyful Journey exists to guide and advocate for students and families as they navigate one of the most important transitions of the high school years.
We work alongside students to help them understand their options, find clarity, and move forward with confidence, while supporting families with context, communication, and reassurance throughout the process.
Meet Meagan O’Hearn
Founder & College Consultant

I began my career in higher education by working in college admissions—first during my time as an undergraduate, and later as an Admissions Counselor. I worked at both a large public university and a small private college, experiences that gave me valuable insight into how different institutions evaluate and support applicants.
While working in admissions, I realized that the most meaningful part of my role was connecting directly with students. That realization led me to “move to the other side of the desk” and pursue a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. As a high school counselor, I had the opportunity to guide hundreds of students through the college application process, supporting them academically, emotionally, and practically during a pivotal stage of life.
Today, as an Independent Educational Consultant, I bring together the perspectives of both admissions and school counseling—helping families understand institutional expectations while staying deeply attuned to the real experiences students face throughout the process.
Why Joyful Journey
Joyful Journey was created out of a desire to offer a more thoughtful, student-centered experience than what many families encounter in traditional college counseling settings. Too often, guidance feels rushed, impersonal, or driven by comparison—leaving students and parents feeling overwhelmed rather than supported.
By working independently, I’m able to slow the process down and focus on what matters most: understanding the student as a whole person. Joyful Journey allows space for individualized support, honest conversations, and guidance that adapts to each student’s goals, timeline, and needs—without pressure or fear-based messaging.
This work is about helping students feel confident and prepared as they move forward, and helping families feel clear and supported along the way.
A more personal way forward.
Our Philosophy
At Joyful Journey, we believe college planning is not about chasing a single definition of success—it’s about helping students and families find the path that
feels right for them.
Every student’s path deserves respect.
Success looks different for every family.
College planning should reduce pressure, not create it.
Every student’s journey is different. Goals, timelines, interests, and circumstances vary, and thoughtful guidance honors those differences rather than trying to fit students into a preset mold.
We believe college planning should feel supportive, not overwhelming or competitive. When students feel seen, understood, and encouraged, they’re able to make decisions with greater confidence and clarity—without unnecessary pressure or comparison.
Thoughtful guidance begins with understanding.
